FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:My capital cursive calligraphyor something like that, my cursive capital letters. I included only the capitals becausethat is where my handwriting...most of the flourishes come from. I just kind of really...honestly consider the rest of my handwriting just neat cursive. As far as the capitalsgo, and the rest of this to be honest, mostly is influenced by a type of lettering calledcopperplate script. It is a font that I learned in my late twenties when someone asked meto do their wedding invitations. I have them a sheet full of fonts even though I couldonly write like three different ways and the one that they picked was copperplate script.And after about 300 invitations I would certainly not call myself a master, but I got to a handwritingstyle that at least judging from feedback on my videos quite a few people like.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:Unfortunatelyin the world of all of our schools having standardized testing, focusing so much onthe math...reading...whatnot... and everyone using computers or texting on their phone,the art of cursive is unfortunately fading away. Hopefully that does not make my videoobsolete because I write in cursive and I have had viewers tell me that they strugglereading my handwriting because they have only ever been exposed to print. But cursive notonly goes much quicker if you are good at it, but it is also..you can make it beautifuland I am not just talking about my style of handwriting. So I feel like it is a very importantway of getting your message across. Like writing a love letter, writing a note to your parents,giving them something more than a text message or email that can get lost if your hard drivecrashes or something like or someone taking your phone. You know, some tangible pieceof paper that can be looked at decades later as a keepsake.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: I am going totalk a little bit about how to properly write with a calligraphy nib, granted I am usingchalk, and this is just my standard writing now whether I am using a pencil, pen, or calligraphynib. Now a calligraph nib has a straight edge, at least if you are right handed, it is ona 45 degree angle if you are left handed, and when you write with a calligraphy nibit needs to be held at a roughly 45 degrees to horizontal. That can vary based on differenttypes of fonts or lettering that you are doing. But, as you look across my writing, all ofthe thin lines created by holding my two pieces of chalk to emulate a small thin nib, kindof all should go around the same angle. Now I am not writing on a piece of paper of courseso this isn't going to be perfect, but that 45 degree angle creates a little bit of eleganceto the lettering as you move around. With a calligraphy nib you cannot push it, youcan only pull. So if you are first learning calligraphy you want to just practice somesort of sweeps with your pen, like some sort of horizontal s's, maybe some arcs here incertain different fashions, and get used to holding your pen or even a calligraphy markerso those thin lines again only appear around 45 degrees.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: It is very difficult to not wrapor rotate your wrist around or moving your arm around to throw off that angle and such.Ok, at any rate we are going to put some capital letters on the top of the board in case youdidn't watch my other video and string along some corresponding lower case letters alongthe bottom. Well, we are going to start of course with the beginning of the alphabet,capital A. I am going to write these out and then discuss the strokes you would have todo if you were using a proper calligraphy pen where you can only pull that pen, youcannot push it like you can with a pen or pencil. So we have an A which is one, two,three, and then as I like to draw it four...as in four stroke. That is a capital A. CapitalB, and I am going to do all my flourishes rather...not fancy but I like..uh..well youare going to see here. Like a B, I am going to give it a cap and I am going to rotatemy wrist a little bit to keep this flourish thin all the way to the end, even though againas you write your letters you want that nib to be on that 45 so it is thin at those 45degree angles here. Capital A and now capital b, but again to keep this thin I am goingto rotate my wrist over and kind of keep that flourish thin all the way along and then holdthe chalk, 2 pieces of chalk, at that proper 45 degree angle. So there is one, two, three.It is a little bit small in the upper loop there, but you can adjust that as you practiceyou letters and I might want to rewrite that as well.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: Capital B and now C...D...and then finally E. Ok someexamples of what we may want them to look like. Now, if you go onto the internet andyou search up calligraphy, and fonts, and writing styles on YouTube you will find somemasters that can do these letters with very intricate flourishes and detail. Again, thisis just generally how I write my cursive. And I am writing these with just a few strokesof my chalk or pen and pencil, again with a calligraphy nib you can only pull those.So if I come back in here and look at the A, with a proper calligraphy nib and the limitationsof not being able to push it otherwise you will splatter ink all over the place, thereis actually one, two, three strokes there. To create this loop in the center which makesit look like an A, that would be... I have lost my count here...One, two, three, andthen four, pick up where you started and start to pull with five strokes. This copperplatelettering is really beautiful if you see someone use a proper calligraphy nib and they arereally a master of copperplate.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:I am not going to call this copperplate script, it has justinfluenced how I write. It is actually sometimes done with a pointed nib and it just incrediblybeautiful. My capital B, well we saw here that is going to be one pull, then two, three,four, and coming down here I would pick up where this left off and finish with that fifthstroke. This copperplate lettering using just a square nib if you will, is not a tremendousnumber of strokes. If you do print, or especially old english, each letter can be constructed...theywould require many many more strokes than these letters. Like when I am saying thatthis is five and six strokes, you know some letters in calligraphy is many more strokesthan that. C is pretty simple regardless of how you do this, that is one, two, and thenthree strokes. The D, and of course you can make this loop on the D around more if youwant to get fancy...that might make this look funny. You can curl it all the way around...whoknows. As you practice with your own hand style and decide on a look that you feel looksgood and looking on line at these fonts that are available and allowing them to influencehow you write, of course maybe you want to learn them exactly which is never a bad idea.Make it look how you like it. So again that is the D here, one, two, three, and then four.And so on with the E and so on and so on. Now with the lower case letters, again itis sort of a nice neat cursive but sort of leaned over to the right, or an italic typefashion. So we have a. Now b, when you write the letter b the proper cursive way writingb... I kind of want to string these along the bottom, let me come over to the left asfar as I can. We have a. Now a proper b in cursive looks like that.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: I am going to runall these lower case letters together. I like to blend a print b with a cursive b and doit in a way that allows you to not have to pick up your pen. You can write your b likethat or you can go...instead of doing a sort of loop that people are not really comfortableor with cursive my not be able to read which is unfortunately is becoming more and morepeople. We can see this a bit more clearly as a b, and then I connect to the next letterby coming off the bottom of it. But you really don't see me write b's like this very ofteneven though it is very neat. Again these long thing hats or flourishes, without going crazyand all over the place, I think adds a lot to the visual impact of your cursive. So whatI will do with a b if I am really trying to make it neat is...ok so I am writing somekind of word like maybe cab, here is my c..a.. and then with the b I will stop here and thenI am going to give it a nice long curved over hat.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:I don't know what else to call it. Thereis my b. So we have a nice flow to it which...otherwise all the flourishes, all the elegance justcomes from the capital letters alone. With some of these lower case letters we can aidwith that look. So a, b, c, d and again I am going to stop here... Well you don't haveto stop, you can come up here and do a normal cursive loop for the d. But, I will stop withwhat almost looks like a c, so coming off the c we form that first loop, and I am goingto pick up my pen or pencil or calligraphy nib, and come over here and give that d anice flow to it as well. Then flowing into the e and I am at the end of my capital letters.Let's clear this off and go on to some more of the alphabet. My line is dropping therea little bit, isn't it. So F, when you look at a proper cursive F it is going to looksomething like this. Oops, I just broke my chalk. I will be right back. Alright, I can'tfake a calligraphy nib with two pieces of chalk that are not the same length. Now whenI first learned how to write an F, it was kind of like an F and a T looked really familiar.This was a T, something like that. An F was very similar, but you would just sort of doa tick mark, or you would carry this F through and I never really liked that. So I don'twrite my F's like that. My F, I will come through and make a mark like that. I againstart off with what looks like a T, and and cursive capital F's and T's look similar aswell, but then I am going to come through and again just to add some long thin flourishescome from the bottom, through the mark, and that is how I write my F's. So that is F,G. And again my version of a G is very similar to a standard cursive G. Now I did that basicallyin two strokes right. Because pencils, pens, chalk, you can push it. Calligraphy pen, thatwould be one, two, three, four, and five. That is five strokes for a calligraphy nibor marker. So that is F, G, H, I. Now I am not writing another I, I am setting up fora J. Well my I and my J start off looking pretty much exactly the same except then Iam going to pick up and draw a bottom loop here. Now you can also, you can also...thisis a little bit incomplete.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:My I's normally look something like that and my J's somethinglike that. With a proper calligraphy pen where you have to pull is one, two, three, four...fourstrokes. Where are we at. We have a, b, c, d, e, f. Ok, well a normal cursive f is somethingof that effect. Sometimes I write my f like that, sometimes I don't. You can write youlower case f by not really... You know the great thing about cursive is you can juststring along your lower case letters without ever picking up your pen. With print everyletter is unique and individual which really slows up the process. But, I am trying towrite neat here and make something that looks visually attractive, so I am going to makesomething that is a bit more flowing. Instead of just doing a loop and finish off the f.You can finish your e here, and then one, two, and three. That is normally how I writemy f's and then you can come through here and if you are really getting fancy and adda little tail on the bottom of the f to kind of give it what I think is a little bit moreelegance to that letter. So we have a, b, c, d, e, f, g.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: Now there is really no whereto continue the next letter unless I want to just show that I am really just continuingon with my cursive with the g. So f, g, h. Again with the h I can just do that and thatis the cursive h. If I want to show a little bit of cursive but make it look more refinedor elegant, then I would stop here again...pick up my pen...put a nice long flow to it similarto the d. So f, g, h. And that is...it is kind of not really cursive because I am notcontinuing through the lettering without having to pick up my pen, but I think it flows rightinto it. So we have g, h, i, j. And uhmm, let's get this picked up with more capitalletters. So we have F, G, H, I, J, starting up with the K. Get my chalk here straightenedaway. K...one, two... And the K's, letters that are not closed or looped again reallyallow you to bring out these long thin flourishes which, at least the feedback I am getting,people like. So the K, give this a nice long line that caps the top of the word and thenyou can really extend it below and capture the word that inside the capital letter. Ifyou don't want to be so fancy, then just make these strokes shorter. L which is...what wasthat like two or three strokes. With a calligraphy pen that would be one, two, three, four, five.So there is K, L, M. Again, you can really swing that underneath there.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:I am going tostop here like I did in my other video and combine some upper and lower case lettershere like capital M for money. Now that y flows, you have tails in that letter. So youcan let that y continue and sweep your hand around making some crazy flourishes with itdepending on how fancy you want to be. If this is the last word on your paper on a pieceof paper and you have a lot of room on the bottom, you can start this crazy, you know,back and forth s motion to make it look fancy. Or, you can flow, I said you can do this ina previous video and then did not show it, you can flow the M and the y together if youlike and make it look something like this. It is just a different look. It is your handwriting,make it look however you like. You can connect those two letters from the beginning to theend of the word and have it look something like that. Ehh...sometimes it looks good,and sometimes it doesn't. I am not sure if it really works with this word here. But atany rate, play around with your handwriting and again make it look how you like. PersonallyI like the first version better for this particular word.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: Alright we have K, L, M. I am runningout of space. I have a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j. Ok again, sort of having a nice littlefine tail to end with, I don't have any place to pick up the next letter. So, I am justgoing to attach it here and have j, k... Well again with the k I can do this, or... I usuallydon't do this. It looks more like regular cursive. I would probably just leave thoseletters completely unattached and j, k. Just have them nice and close. It is not goingto look like there is a break in the word and you are continuing off into some otherrandom word unless you leave a space there. j, k, l, m, n, o. I have some room here. Thereis not much you can do with an O really. It is just an O. So there is a capital O. Ifyou want to put a little loop at the top to give it some fanciness, that is fine. So wehave a capital K, L, M, N, O...finishing off there. Well now my whole board is taken upso let's pause this video and get this cleaned off. Leaving off with O, we have P. L, M,N, O, P Ok..P I can keep it simple or still simple but leave some nice long trailing linesto I think add some elegance to your lettering. That is how I write my P's. You can loop thesearound some more. If you don't like the way that sort of esses, you can let that looparound and continue your P that way. Make it look how you like. I generally make myP's look something like that. P, Q Capital Q looks something like a weird fancy two.Most people aren't going to be able to read that anymore since fewer and fewer peopleare being taught cursive which is horrible. So, and I just like to draw a circle, or excuseme an O, and give it a nice little tail. So P, Q, R. And again I like to have my longlines come around and if I want to write a word inside that letter like rain, I can justlet the capital letter encompass the word that I am writing. I think it makes it lookquite pretty.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:So we have R, S. S is going to be one, two at least if you are using apen or pencil. With a calligraphy nib that is going to be one, two, three, four. Andit takes a lot of practice to be able to... let's try that again, one, two... You knowwhere you pick up somewhere else, it is really difficult and a lot of practice is required,and I am not perfect, but to start somewhere else and make a nice smooth arc and have itmeet where you were. So that is one, two, three, four. And sometimes you can stop andmake it look like that line is passing behind the other line a give a three dimensionallook to your letters. So we have P, Q, R, S, T. Cursive T looks something like that.I am kind of rushing through it because I don't particularly like the way they look.I just make my T's look really basic to be honest and just let the top be a nice flowinghorizontal s. So S, T.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR: I am running out of space. I will usually let that loop over herebe the same size if not bigger that the loop on the left. So I am getting almost to theend of the alphabet. s, t...so p. Of course lower case p, that is how I write it. I guesswe are supposed to...if I am coming off of another letter. See I still don't really wantto write it as a p where you are doing it all in one motion. I always leave that tailat the bottom. So let's just leave it as I write my p, q, r. So notice, I can attachthat p from the bottom. So p, q, r, s, t...let's just finish...t, u, v, w, x, y. Now I shouldbe carrying over to the next letter, but most of the time with my y's i will finish witha nice loop or I will take that double and just swing it around and make this look fancy.That is not proper cursive, it would be swinging back up and going into the z. Depending howmuch flourish you want to add. That is normally how I end my y's. I leave a space and go ontomy next letter. I have what is going to be a z here in a second. That crazy flourishis not going to look good with a z next to it because it is going to loop down. So x,y, z.
FANCY TEXT GENERATOR:Do you see what I just did there? I made the illusion that these are connectedby starting the z at the line of the y. Not really proper cursive again, these lower caseletters for the most part should be flowing together without ever having to pick up yourpen or pencil. So my cursive is a little bit influenced by print and again that copperplatefont. Getting back to those upper case letters...P, Q, R, S, T... U, one, two, three. V and W.Missed my line there a little bit so I will just cheat and erase it. Again I like thatV to sweep over the entire word, like if I was going to take my dog to the vet..or mypet to the vet and have that capital letter encompass the whole word. So there is V. W,X, Y at least how I write them and finally Z.
